Napoleonic Wars

Shorncliffe Camp was key to the defence of Britain during the Napoleonic Wars. From 1802-1806 the camp was commanded by Sir John Moore, who also had responsibility for the general defence of Kent. It was during this period that Moore masterminded the creation of the Light Infantry Brigade.

Below is a photo of the statue of Sir John Moore at Shorncliffe Camp, as glimpsed from inside the Memorial Library which also bears his name. Also the statue of Moore and the Library from outside.
