A page devoted to Shorncliffe is necessary. The modern camp originated in 1793/4, though there is evidence on earlier military occupation of the site.

Welcome to Coast of Conflict, named after my first book, published in 2004. It is a history of south Kent from Napoleonic times to the First World War. In 2008 this was followed by Dover and Folkestone during the Great War. During my researches I accumulated a great deal of material and my aim here is to make this material widely available.
